For Immediate Release: Highball Lounge Opens in River North on Thursday, November 17th Chicago, IL (November 7, 2011) – Highball Lounge is ready to take Chicagoans to a bygone era, when life was simple and highballs were king. The retro lounge is slated to open to the public on Thursday, November 17th. The venue, which is located upstairs at 738 North Clark Street, features an extensive cocktail list that celebrates the classic highball. With top-notch ingredients and an experienced staff, guests are encouraged to create their version of a perfect drink. Fresh squeezed juices and an arsenal of unique mixers, like dandelion and burdock soda, are available to ensure that every cocktail is made to perfection. Classics like Moscow Mules, French 75s, Dark & Stormies and Scotch & Sodas will be served in style and set to a mix of cool lounge music, bringing guests back to a sexy, uncomplicated time. The owner, Perry Fotopoulos, opened The Tasting Room, one of Chicago’s favorite wine bars, in 2000. As a sommelier, he understands the harmony of crafting flavorful, balanced cocktails and creating an exceptional beverage program (the wine and beer lists are hidden gems among the seductive drink offerings). The staff of highly trained professionals are veterans of many of Chicago’s greatest establishments including Aviary, Rebar at Trump International Tower, Tasting Room, and NoMI. “We wanted to create a place where couples, singles, or groups of friends could enjoy high quality cocktails without having to endure a loud bar, restaurant, or overcrowded hotel,” explains Fotopoulos. “Highball Lounge recreates the feel of the classic cocktail lounge...a place where people can enjoy a good drink and the simple art of conversation set to a background of cool, upbeat melodies.” In an effort to salute the architecture and art of the 50s and 60s, designer Sallie Ann Westbrook partnered with McKinley Design to furnish the venue with sleek mid century modern interior finishes and a beautifully simple “Eames” look. The sleek, sexy low booths were inspired by photography from the original Playboy Clubs; and the ladies room, adorned in Tiffany Blue, is homage to Truman Capote’s Holly Golightly. The back bar cabinetry is inspired by the iconic Eames’ sideboards and knoll’s credenzas. Over the next few months, Highball Lounge will begin inviting select guests to some special nocturnal events. Those looking to join the pack can join by submitting their email addresses online at www.HighballLounge.com. Registered guests will receive information about exclusive wine and cocktail tastings, educational seminars, cocktail recipe classes, of-the-era cocktail parties and other social events. With a 99-person occupancy, Highball Lounge is available for special events and plans to expand to the third floor for all who seek a unique, classy party venue. "You may not be able to have a Scotch & Soda at the office anymore but now you have the perfect place to have a highball when you get off work,” adds Fotopoulos. Highball Lounge will be hosting a Media & V.I.P. Launch Party on Thursday, December 8th, from 5pm to 9pm, for media, concierges, and VIP guests. Invited guests will enjoy complimentary cocktails, hors d'oeuvres provided by Good Earth Catering, and music provided by DJ Joe Bryl, who will begin his monthly “Tropical Thursday” residency at Highball Lounge on December 15. Invitations will be sent in mid November. For more information about the VIP event, please contact info HighballLounge.com or chicago@k101agency.com.
